The Ettalong Beach project was a long-term collaboration three and a half years in the making, located on the Central Coast in Ettalong Beach. We were engaged by Gene Development to deliver the full interior design scope, working closely alongside True North Architects from concept through to completion.
The development consists of four three-bedroom apartments, with the two front residences enjoying uninterrupted water views. From the outset, the brief was clear: to create warm, refined coastal interiors that feel timeless and calm, while also delivering strong return on investment for the developer.
Material selection was a key driver throughout the project. Given the coastal location, all finishes and fixtures needed to be durable, non-corrosive, and suitable for long-term exposure to salt air, without compromising on aesthetics. We carefully layered natural stone, warm timber joinery, soft neutral upholstery, and tactile finishes to create spaces that feel elevated yet relaxed. Every selection was tested against longevity, maintenance, and how it would age over time, both practically and visually.
The interiors were designed to complement the architecture rather than compete with it. Curved joinery, restrained palettes, and considered detailing were used to soften the spaces and enhance the coastal light, particularly in the front apartments where the outlook plays a central role in the experience of the home.
This was a highly collaborative process between client, architect, interior designer and builder, with each stage carefully unpacked and aligned before moving forward. The result is a collection of coastal sanctuary-style apartments that feel warm, timeless, and robust, designed not only to stand the test of time aesthetically, but to perform commercially for years to come.
